In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and innovation, generative artificial intelligence (AI) stands out as a transformative force reshaping administration, research, and education. For faculty, staff, and students in higher education, staying abreast of AI advancements is not just beneficial鈥 it's essential.
Why It Matters
AI is not just for computer scientists and tech enthusiasts; its applications span across fields such as healthcare, finance, education, and the arts. For faculty, integrating AI into the curriculum can enhance teaching and students' learning and prepare students for future careers. Staff can leverage AI for administrative efficiencies, while students gain a competitive edge in the job market by mastering these technologies.
Getting Started with Generative AI in Education
[U]Tech's Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) has launched a Canvas course for faculty and staff members, "Getting Started with Generative AI in Education." This self-paced course, developed in response to the CWRU AI Task Force report released by the Faculty Senate and Office of the Provost, is a collaborative effort by [U]Tech TLT, Kelvin Smith Library, the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education, and faculty members.
The course offers a concise foundation in generative artificial intelligence. Completion is expected to take three to four hours.

How to Craft a Prompt
The information, sentences, and questions that you enter into a Generative AI tool are called Prompts. They affect the quality of the responses you receive. Before exploring your AI options, learn how to write a well formed Prompt. This guide gives you a basic overview of how to craft a good prompt鈥 from what role the AI should take, the task you want done, the requirements imposed, and how the AI should act.
