CWRU鈥檚 Academic Inquiry Seminar self-selection process empowers first-year students to select a seminar that best suits their needs as college-level writers and thinkers. You will complete the self-selection module on your Roadmap. You will read an article, write a response to it, and answer questions related to your reading and writing experiences. You will be provided with materials to help you choose from among several different kinds of Academic Inquiry Seminar: descriptions of the courses available to you, a questionnaire about your writing and reading experience, and evaluative criteria you can use to self-assess your own writing.
Please note: You will not be able to register for classes until you complete this required Roadmap item.
Some students will take their Academic Inquiry Seminar (AIQS) in the first semester, while others will take it in the second semester. In early July, you will see a hold in your schedule letting you know when you are scheduled to take your Academic Inquiry Seminar (AIQS). If you are scheduled to take it in the fall, you will see a placeholder in your schedule in SIS for AIQS 850F. If you are scheduled to take it in the spring, you will see a placeholder in your schedule in SIS for AIQS 850S. If you are scheduled to take the course in the spring, you don鈥檛 need to register for an AIQS during fall registration. You will be prompted to enroll in the course when registering for your spring courses later in the year.
