Although I was born in Ohio, I spent most of my life in a suburb north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in May of 2023. After graduation, I worked at one of the state’s largest hospitals surrounded by tubes of blood, miscellaneous body fluids, and microscopes on every countertop. Although I was fascinated by laboratory medicine and I loved what I was doing, I deeply missed working as a phlebotomist, like I had during undergrad. I missed interacting with patients and hearing their stories. On an ordinary day in the lab, I was attending a bone marrow biopsy, where a CAA was providing sedation for the case. I found myself fascinated with his role, and I decided to shadow a CAA to learn more. From the moment I stepped foot in the OR, I was hooked. I had found a field that was both precise and exhilarating; more than anything, it felt incredibly rewarding to know that I could make such a direct impact in someone’s life. The CAA I shadowed raved about her experience living in Cleveland and attending CWRU. I immediately began doing everything I could to prepare myself, and here I am now, following in her footsteps at CWRU in Cleveland. I couldn’t be more excited!

Myra Guo

I graduated from Ohio State University with a major in Biology and a minor in the study of child abuse and neglect. I was drawn to a career in medicine because I was born with the auto-inflammatory syndrome Muckle-Wells, so I understand firsthand the impact the personnel in a care team has on one’s experience through vulnerable times. Having met many caring and attentive healthcare workers who truly impacted my experience at the hospital, I aspire to make such an impact on others. During undergrad, I worked at a research lab where I completed a project and found my inclination toward hands-on work. Additionally, I volunteered at a local hospital’s ED, where I witnessed the importance of effective communication and collaboration in operating an efficient team in a fast-paced and, at times, chaotic environment. I also volunteered at my local library, where I helped kids from low socioeconomic backgrounds improve their reading comprehension. While working with these kids, I learned the importance of listening to people’s anxieties and frustrations to help them reach their goals. While shadowing an anesthesiologist, I was introduced to the CAA profession. While witnessing the role of CAAs, I saw that this profession aligns with everything I value in a career: hands-on skills, ability to help patients alleviate their anxieties, collaboration all are encapsulated in this profession. I’m excited to study at CWRU because every aspect of the program is tailored to help the students succeed and become the best healthcare providers they can be!

Being a shoulder to lean on is something that comes to me naturally during tough times and is something I look forward to providing for patients. Case Western specifically stood out to me as it is located in the place I call home. I look forward to the opportunities this program has to offer and serving my community.

Michelle Khuong

I was born and raised in San Jose, California, and graduated from UC Davis in 2024 with a Bachelor’s in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior and a Minor in Psychology. From an early age, I was already interested in healthcare. This led me to start volunteering at Kaiser Permanente my junior year of high school to my sophomore year in college - working with the staff, nurses and other volunteers even through the pandemic. It was there that I cultivated my interpersonal, teamwork, and adaptation skills. When I underwent a surgery myself during college, I was certain that I wanted to go into anesthesia to give other people the same standard of care my anesthesiologist gave to me. This only solidified when I shadowed an anesthesiologist to see anesthesia care in the OR. Upon learning about the CAA profession, I knew it was right for me, not only because of the lifestyle balance, but being able to complete the cycle of care within a case. I took it upon myself to do as much research as I could and work towards going to CWRU’s MSA program. The diversity of cases, community, and early clinical exposure all excite me about the program. I will never forget the joy I had when I got my acceptance call, and I know that my background as a patient as well as my prior experiences in volunteering has taught me things that will be vital in my work as a CAA and providing high quality patient care.

Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of individuals from diverse educational backgrounds helped me cultivate my problem-solving skills and reinforced how much I enjoy working in dynamic, team-oriented environments. When I was first introduced to the CAA profession, I quickly found myself fascinated by the field. The more I learned—through shadowing and independent research—the more it felt like the perfect combination of everything I value: collaborative work, critical thinking under pressure, and the chance to care for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments. As I continue my education at CWRU, I’m excited to build on these foundations and further develop the clinical skills necessary to become an exceptional CAA. I look forward to contributing to a field where compassion, precision, and teamwork come together to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Mia Moore

After growing up in a small north Texas town, I attended Texas A&M University where I got my degree in Biomedical Sciences. Like most SAA’s, I started oD college as a pre-med student but quickly found a draw to the OR. I have been interested in medicine for as long as I can remember, but was never quite sure where my passions lay until I came across the CAA profession while shadowing. Being able to work in a broad scope of surgeries while providing compassionate and life changing care made CAA an obvious career choice for me! I currently work as a tech at an oral and maxillofacial surgery oDice where I get to directly participate in the care of patients under anesthetics. This has developed some of the skills I will use as a CAA and given me a much better understanding of surgical patient needs. I chose Case Western Reserve University as the next step in my career due to its established history of developing successful CAAs and the unparalleled network of hospitals and providers that I would gain access to. The culture surrounding the Case program is extremely supportive and collaborative which is an environment I know I will thrive in. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the long-standing legacy of CWRU and look forward to the next 24 months!

Anahi Morales Jaimes

I grew up in Mexico and immigrated to the United States when I was nine years old. By the time I started college, I knew I wanted a career in healthcare, which led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Washington State University. To explore my options and gain more experience, I joined the pre-health club, volunteered, and worked as a home health aide. During this time, I took a class that explored various healthcare professions, and I was immediately drawn to the CAA role for its unique blend of technical skills and patient interaction. After shadowing in the field, I knew it was the right path for me as it offered the opportunity to deliver a critical, hands-on service while making a meaningful difference in someone's life. Since then, I have continued to strengthen both my clinical and interpersonal skills while caring for chronically ill patients. I’m excited to begin my training at CWRU, especially for the early clinical exposure and strong sense of community the program offers. I’m confident that the training I receive here will help me grow into a well-rounded anesthesia provider capable of delivering safe, high-quality care.

Caroline Mueckler

I am from Columbia, SC, and am currently pursuing my B.S. in Health Science at Clemson University. I have always been interested in medicine and was initially on a pre-med track. However, after shadowing a CAA entering my senior year, I realized that was the right path for me. I am inspired by how CAAs are pivotal for many types of operations and play a key role in the anesthesia care team to provide patients with the most comfortable care. 365betÌåÓýÔÚÏßÊÀ½ç± Clemson, I have developed my critical thinking skills by breaking down complex topics as an organic chemistry peer-assisted learning leader. CAAs need these skills on a daily basis to solve unique problems in operations and ultimately bring comfort to patients by explaining their anesthesia. Not only does this profession align with skills I have enhanced through undergrad, but also with my own values, as being a CAA will allow me to have the honor of making a difference in patient lives by calming their anxieties and carefully administering anesthesia. Upon applying for programs, I set CWRU-Cleveland as my top choice, as they have an exceptional reputation and offer outstanding hospitals for clinicals. I am beyond eager to get started at CWRU at the Cleveland campus in May and learn everything I can to become an excellent CAA!

Malik Nelson

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, I spent my undergrad years from 2015-2019 at Jackson State University (JSU)—a proud HBCU—where I shadowed and volunteered at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), Mississippi’s only university hospital. JSU & UMMC provided a strong foundation in learning & patient care, shaped me culturally & personally, and emphasized the importance of community, representation, & culture in healthcare. From 2019-2023, I attended Emory University’s MD program gaining diverse clinical experiences and conducting research in healthcare economics in dermatology, published in February 2021. While Emory strengthened me intellectually and professionally, it also made me realize that working as a physician was not the right fit. A good friend, who is a CAA, sparked my interest in this career, which blends my love for healthcare, efficiency, and advocacy in an impactful way. I’m especially interested in how CAAs improve healthcare systems, expand patient access to care, and engage in political advocacy, and I hope to explore these areas in the future. Case Western stands out for its 50+ years of CAA education. The Houston Program Director’s extensive connection to Emory’s CAA program makes it a unique bridge between two of this field’s oldest and most reputable CAA programs. As a very extroverted person, I look forward to building lifelong friendships—whether through study groups, game nights, or enjoying water activities on nearby lakes. I am also looking forward to being close to my family in Houston, as their support will be invaluable while in school.

Katherine Nguyen

I have spent most of my life in Arizona, where I attended Arizona State University to earn my bachelor's and master's in biochemistry. Originally, I planned to pursue a career in research, which was sparked by my thesis project focused on the production of monoclonal antibodies against COVID-19. Following graduation, I worked in the field of pharmaceutical research and development, but found that I wanted to work more directly with patients. This was affirmed through volunteering and clinical experiences at my local hospital, where I discovered how rewarding providing care to others can be. For me, a career as an anesthesiologist assistant is the ideal combination of my interest in pharmacology and my desire to work with people. I am so excited to be starting a new chapter with Case Western Reserve University, and I look forward to learning and growing with this amazing profession!

Andrea Oh

I grew up in Arlington, Virginia and studied Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience at Virginia Tech. I was initially planning to go to medical school, but during my gap years while working as an ER medical scribe and dermatology MA, I realized it did not best suit my interests and what I desired out of my career. I knew I still wanted to be involved in hands-on clinical care, and after researching and exposing myself to other healthcare professional roles I immediately became fascinated with the role of a CAA. I admired that CAAs make a significant impact on a patient's clinical experience and play a contributory role in both the anesthesia care team as well as with the greater OR team. By pursuing a career as a CAA, I also enjoyed the fact that my education would immediately be focused on anesthesia care. While interviewing at CWRU, I was highly impressed by the level of enthusiasm and professionalism by current students, faculty, and staff. In the future, I hope to become involved with career advocacy and education. I feel very lucky and excited to be building my career at CWRU.

After graduation, I began working as a physical therapist technician in the ICU at the Cleveland Clinic, where I was introduced to the fast-paced environment of medicine and the immediate impact of patient care. This experience sparked doubts about my original path and led me to explore other healthcare professions. While searching for a profession that felt like a better fit, I was introduced to the Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) profession. What excites me most about this career is the fast-acting nature of the work and the direct impact it has on patient outcomes. I had the privilege of working as an anesthesia technician at the Cleveland Clinic, where I observed the wide range of responsibilities CAAs hold. I was especially drawn to how they communicated with patients, calming anxieties, answering any questions, and building trust moments before surgery. Watching Case Western CAA graduates work with such skill and compassion made a lasting impression on me. My academic background and clinical experiences have prepared me for the demands of the MSA program. I am excited for the opportunity to study at Case Western, where I can build on what I’ve learned and grow in a rigorous, supportive environment. My interests in fast-paced, patient-focused care will drive my success as a future CAA!

I grew up in Venezuela, until me and my family moved to Canada, where I attended York University and earned a degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences. Initially aspiring to pursue physical therapy, I volunteered and worked in various healthcare settings that allowed me to support patients through rehabilitation. Although I loved the work that I was doing, I wanted to seek a career where I could contribute more immediately to patient outcomes. After a lot of research and conversations with peers and friends, I discovered the CAA profession. Soon after, I had the opportunity to shadow an anesthesiologist, where I observed the complexity and precision involved in anesthesia management. What drew me in was the unique combination of direct patient care, complex medical cases, and the ability to work collaboratively within a surgical team. I am excited to start my CAA journey with Case Western’s MSA Program and learn everything there is to know about anesthesia. Through the program’s early exposure to the OR and the faculty’s expertise, I know that I will be set up to be a great Anesthesiologist Assistant.

I grew up in the small, rural town of Greensboro, GA, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. My interest in healthcare began with frequent hospital visits to Children’s Healthcare of 365betÌåÓýÔÚÏßÊÀ½ç±lanta for treatment of my hypothyroidism. It was through these visits—and the meaningful relationship I built with my endocrinologist—that I first understood the profound impact healthcare professionals can have on a patient’s daily life. 365betÌåÓýÔÚÏßÊÀ½ç± UGA, I deepened this passion through clinical volunteering, involvement in cultural and non-profit organizations, and exploring different healthcare roles. Conversations with my sister, a CAA, and my experience shadowing an anesthesiologist opened my eyes to the unique and vital role CAAs play. I was especially drawn to the opportunity to oversee a patient’s entire surgical journey and to contribute to moments that can be truly life-changing. Having been in the patient’s shoes, I carry a deep empathy and commitment to care. I’m thrilled to begin this next chapter at CWRU and to follow in the footsteps of my sister, whose guidance and example have helped lead me here. After growing up in Denver, Colorado, I graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Biology and a minor in Neuroscience. My journey toward the healthcare field began early, as I grew up with a passion for human anatomy and physiology, which I developed through both my academic studies and personal experience as an athlete. As a competitive swimmer, I learned the importance of resilience and the role of recovery techniques grounded in science, which deepened my interest in health and wellness. During college, I specialized in neuroscience and became fascinated by the brain’s interpretation of pain, which further fueled my desire to understand anesthesia’s role in pain management. My curiosity about consciousness in general, and understanding how anesthesia can alter consciousness and perception in profound ways is something I find deeply intriguing, and I am eager to study it further in the context of patient care. A life-changing service trip to Peru, where I volunteered with MedLife, allowed me to see the importance of direct patient care in vulnerable populations and reinforced my commitment to a healthcare career. Observing and assisting anesthesiologists solidified my decision to pursue this career. I am excited to begin my studies at Case Western, where I will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to provide exceptional care as a certified anesthesiologist assistant and make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes!

I was raised in Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville, but am originally from Maryland, so I am excited to be returning to the DMV to attend CWRU DC! Growing up, I was always interested in a career in the medical field because of my mother, who worked in internal medicine for most of my life and now works in addiction medicine. While attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, I was able to explore both pre-medical classes and medical sociology and debated a career in both public health and healthcare. However, I ultimately decided to major in Hispanic Studies, which allowed me the time to explore both of these interests, in addition to my interest in the Spanish language and Spanish-speaking cultures. Throughout the MSA program and in my career as a CAA, I am excited to be able to apply my love for science, learning, and medical sociology to deliver the best-possible patient care.

I was born and raised in rural Michigan. I graduated from Michigan State University where I studied human biology and epidemiology. My interest in medicine began and developed as a child through my own personal health issues. Throughout my studies I sought out medical related opportunities such as shadowing, volunteering at the hospital, and working as a research assistant. I then obtained my phlebotomy certificate and after working as one, was certain I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. I was drawn to anesthesia because of the high stakes environment, hands on skill set, and the ability to support patients at an incredibly vulnerable time. I chose CWRU Houston because of its proximity to the Texas Medical Center, its reputation for producing competent anesthetists, and the opportunity to train with a diverse patient population. I'm beyond excited to start the program this May.

During my time at the University of Missouri, I found myself drawn to opportunities that combined science, service, and hands-on learning. From conducting multidisciplinary research, to working as a Registered Behavior Technician and serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), I developed a deep appreciation for the impact that skilled, compassionate care can have on people’s lives. What excites me most about becoming a certified anesthesiologist assistant is the chance to play a critical role in the operating room—helping patients feel safe, supported, and cared for during some of their most vulnerable moments. I love that the profession blends technical precision with teamwork and human connection. I chose the CWRU MSA program because of its strong clinical training, collaborative learning environment, and dedication to shaping confident, capable providers in an amazing city. I’m looking forward to learning from experienced professionals, learning alongside my classmates, and developing the skills I’ll need to make a difference as a future CAA.
