Motorized Camera Arm

Aurelian Barber poses with his robotic arm and wheelchair

Aurelian Barber is a photographer and videographer but has limited use of his hands and gets around in a wheelchair. This school year, he has collaborated with CWRU engineering students to design and build a robotic arm to point and shoot cameras. The robotic arm attaches to Aurelian鈥檚 wheelchair and includes a control module designed specifically for him. Now he can collect his shots faster and easier than before.

Over nine weeks, the students - Myles Smith, Grant Boone, Max Rollins, Amanda Duban, Noah Santoni, Nil Kincak, and Amy Budzichowski - worked through the design process with Aurelian. They brainstormed, prototyped, and tested a variety of solutions before manufacturing the final product.

Aurelian and the students have since been featured in an .
