Summary of this Policy
Case Western Reserve University (鈥淐WRU鈥� or 鈥渢he University鈥�) welcomes military service members to enroll as students in its educational programs. CWRU refrains from high-pressure recruiting tactics of this population in all of its recruiting and admission activities.
Purpose(s) of this Policy
The University engages in efforts to eliminate unfair, deceptive, and abusive marketing aimed at military service members. In support of these efforts, it refrains from high-pressure recruitment activities.
Definitions
- Military Service Member鈥攕omeone who is a member of, applies to be a member of, performs, has performed, applied to perform, or has an obligation to perform, service in the uniformed services. Serving, whether voluntary or involuntary, in the armed forces, including service by a member of the National Guard or Reserve on active duty, active duty for training, or full time National Guard duty under federal authority, for a period of more than 30 consecutive days under a call or order to active duty of more than 30 consecutive days. This does not include National Guard service under state authority. This includes active duty, veteran, reservists and their dependents.
- Armed Forces鈥攖he U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force.
- Active duty鈥� full-time duty in the active military service of the United States. Active duty includes full-time training duty, annual training duty, and attendance, while in the active military service, at a school designated as a service school by law or by the Secretary of the military department concerned. Active duty does not include full-time National Guard duty.
- Veteran鈥攕omeone who served in the military, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.
- Dependents鈥攖he spouse or legal partner or child(ren) of a Military Service Member.
Prohibited activities
Members of the University community whose duties include recruiting students shall refrain from high-pressure recruiting tactics for the purpose of securing service member enrollments. Such tactics include engaging in same-day recruitment and registration, and making multiple unsolicited contacts (three or more), including contacts by phone, email, or in-person, for the purpose of securing service member enrollments.
