The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University opens the 2019-2020 season on Nov. 1 with Avanti, a presentation of new and revisited works.
Headlining the program is 鈥淟ike Fragments from an Old Song,鈥 created for the graduate dancers by internationally acclaimed guest choreographer . The work was developed during Tanowitz鈥檚 eight day CWRU residency in September and explores fragmented movements woven together by the dancers鈥 connectivity and intuition, with an homage to the history of Mather Dance Center. The performance is set to and inspired by 鈥嬧滲road and Free,鈥鈥 a composition for violin and piano by contemporary composer .
Alongside this work is the lyrical 鈥淎ir for the G String鈥 by modern dance pioneer Doris Humphrey, and the fast-paced 鈥淐affeinated鈥 by guest choreographer Rounding out the program is 鈥淏rothers,鈥 a new work by Department of Dance Professor along with the return of his sensual 鈥淚slands of Desire,鈥 which premiered in 2014
