About the Program

Further your dental career with a Master of Science in Dentistry from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. In our program, you鈥檒l earn a specialized certificate to pair with your master鈥檚鈥攃hoose from endodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, or maxillofacial medicine and diagnostic services.

And, you鈥檒l put your skills to use in our new 鈥攁 three-story, 132,000-square-foot facility where our dental students treat nearly 19,000 patients each year. You鈥檒l come away from our program prepared for interprofessional research and oral medicine care.

What to Expect

You can complete your master鈥檚 in 24 months. Your coursework will cover topics ranging from research design, statistics and critical assessments of scientific literature, to oral medicine, facial pain, and oral and maxillofacial pathology. You鈥檒l also attend weekly seminars, weekly morbidity and mortality rounds, journal club, and case presentations.

When it鈥檚 time for your two-week clinical rotations, you鈥檒l work at University Hospitals (UH) Cleveland Medical Center, Seidman Cancer Center and other affiliated hospitals. Available rotations include internal medicine; ear, nose and throat; radiation; oncology; medical oncology; pediatric ear, nose and throat; dermatology, neurology; infectious diseases; the ; and tumors.

365bet体育在线世界杯 Case Western Reserve, you鈥檒l work alongside faculty who are board certified in oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial pathology, and oral and maxillofacial radiology鈥攊n addition to one faculty member with dual medical/dental training, and three with graduate degrees in basic sciences or public health. Our scope of expertise expands the full scope of oral medicine, orofacial pain, sleep medicine, oral oncology, head and neck anatomy, and oral and maxillofacial pathology.

Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine offers a number of educational programs, including the Doctor of Dental Medicine program, DMD/MPH program, EFDA program, MCRT program, and post-doctoral programs in a number of dental specialties.

Beyond the Classroom

Through our award-winning Healthy Smiles Sealant Program, you鈥檒l have opportunities to work with children in Cleveland public schools, providing them with access to free dental exams and sealants. You'll have other opportunities to give back to the community through programs such as Family First, which helps families identify multi-generational dental issues and attempt to alleviate those problems; Northeast Ohio Headstart; and the Ronald McDonald Caremobile.

Additionally, you鈥檒l gain valuable teaching experience with our Doctor of Dental Medicine students鈥攁s well as an abundance of research and clinical opportunities, which exist in synergy with the Departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Biological Sciences, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and multiple medical specialty divisions at UH Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, and MetroHealth Medical Center.

The application process requires:

  • School of Dental Medicine application 
  • Statement of purpose
  • Three evaluation forms from previous instructors; a dean鈥檚 letter may be counted as one of the three
  • GRE test scores
  • DMD/DDS or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
  • Passing grades in the National Dental Board Examination(s) preferred
  • Official dental school transcripts
  • Non-refundable application fee of $145, payable at the dental application fee website
  • Current resume/CV
  • International applicants: Results of TOEFL or IELTS and letter of financial support
