About the Program

Double your career opportunities with a dual bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degree in biomedical engineering from and School of Medicine. Launched in 1968 as one of the first of its kind, our biomedical engineering program offers research and educational opportunities that are strongly integrated with industry through graduate assistantships, sponsored research projects and industrial training activities. By bridging the gap between medicine and engineering, we position you to play a leading role in promoting human health through the creation, clinical translation and commercialization of new technologies, devices and therapies.

Today, top students from around the globe continue to choose us for our intensive faculty-student interactions and physician collaborations with major medical centers, including Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals. As a member of our academically rich environment, you鈥檒l be trained in cellular and subcellular mechanisms for understanding fundamental physiological processes; in dealing with biomedical problems at the tissue and organ system level; and in integrating this knowledge in systems approaches to solving clinical problems.

What to Expect

Our integrated Bachelor of Science (BS)/Master of Science (MS) program is intended for highly motivated and qualified undergraduate students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in biomedical engineering. When you are admitted to the program, you may, in your senior year, take up to nine credits of graduate courses that will count toward both BS and MS requirements.

  • integrates knowledge across the spectrum from cellular and molecular biology through tissue, organ and whole-body physiology and pathophysiology, and
  • employs this knowledge to design diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to improve human health.
To be considered for the BS/MS program, you must:
鈥擲ubmit an application for admission to the program through the School of Graduate Studies, and
鈥擲ubmit a Planned Program of Study Form to the Office of Undergraduate Studies.

Admission Requirements

You should apply to the BS/MS program after the completion of 75 semester hours of coursework and prior to attaining senior status (completion of 90 semester hours). Normally, this means you鈥檒l submit applications in the sixth semester of the BS program (usually the spring term of your junior year), but make sure to check with the BS/MS adviser for your department to learn the specific due date for your application. Case School of Engineering sets the minimum grade point average for admission to the BS/MS program at 3.0; individual departments may set a higher minimum GPA.
