What to Expect
In your five years in our program, you鈥檒l become an expert in the field through study rooted in careful examination of the specific properties and idiosyncrasies of art objects. You鈥檒l contribute concretely to a broader cultural and theoretical academic discourse as you鈥檙e trained by top faculty in both traditional and newer art history approaches.
All of our faculty members maintain an object-oriented approach to teaching and research鈥攁nd many of our adjunct faculty are museum educators and art curators at the world-renowned Cleveland Museum of Art. The museum鈥檚 art research library is the third largest in the U.S.鈥攁nd will be readily available to you throughout your studies.
And, you鈥檒l have opportunities to network with prominent scholars through the 鈥攊ncluding the Julius Fund lecture, the Buchanan lecture and the Olszweski lecture. Our department also sponsors the annual 鈥攐ne of the oldest graduate-student organized symposia in art history in the United States.
